Russian Literature

The Compulsive Explainer

Somehow, I’m not sure how, I started learning and listening to this. I am listening, for a least an hour a day, to Classics of Russian Literature and The Idiot.

This first is the simplest, by far – it’s an American professor (who is fluent in Russian) teaching a class for American students. I decided to try Dostoevsky for myself – and quickly got in over my head.

Look at the Spark Notes for the plot overview. Nineteenth Century Russians must have been very intelligent people – just to keep track of all those Russian names – to say nothing of the complicated plots!

It’s tragic how quickly they declined in the 20 Century – the Century that wrecked nearly everyone.
